Ermenilda, Abbess of Ely, c.700
Commemoration
13 February

Ermenilda (or Eormenilda, or Ermenhild) was the daughter of Eorcenbert, king of Kent, and his wife Sexburga, the sister of Etheldreda. She married Wulfhere, king of Mercia (and their daughter was Werburga) but after his death she entered her mother’s nunnery at Sheppey, becoming its abbess when her mother became abbess of Ely. When Sexburga died, Ermenilda in turn became abbess of Ely. At her death she was buried with her mother and her aunt in the abbey church, and continued to be honoured at Ely until the destruction of the shrine at the Reformation.

If celebrated as a Lesser Festival, the propers for 23 June may be used.
